Patricia McGovern - Principal Solicitor

Prior to establishing P. McGovern & Co. Solicitors earlier this year, Patricia was a founding partner in another Dublin law firm where she developed and headed a dedicated Intellectual Property Unit.  She has over 20 years experience in the practice of law.

She obtained an honours degree in law from Trinity College Dublin and qualified as a solicitor in 1987.  She also qualified as an Irish Trade Mark Agent in 1994 and as a Community Trade Mark and Design Attorney in 1996.  She is regarded as one of the leading IP lawyers in Ireland and has consistently been highly recommended by many organisations such as The Legal 500 for many years.  

Patricia has also practised in almost all areas of business law.  She has considerable expertise in the buying and selling of private companies, public listings both in Ireland and the UK, rights issues, public offers, competition law and pensions. 

Patricia advises on all aspects of intellectual property law.  She has considerable experience in advising on brand strategies, protection strategies for patents, trade marks, designs and copyright, from prosecution to registration of trade marks and designs before the Irish Trade Marks Office and the Community Trade Marks & Designs Office, the exploitation of intellectual property rights including licensing arrangements, and on all contentious aspects in intellectual property to include trade mark, copyright and design infringement actions, passing off actions, anti-counterfeiting actions, patent infringement actions, actions for invalidity of patents and for declarations of non infringement. 

She also deals with all aspects of franchising, data protection and the competition aspects of intellectual property. In addition, she has extensive experience in dealing with issues affecting e-commerce and the internet, all aspects of technology agreements, all types of media contracts and the IP aspects of employment.
